I Have 20 Terrible Wild Things! I Dreamed Them in my Head

This poem was the beginning of our week long study of the fabulous book,
Where the Wild Things Are.
Of course in the poem there were only 5 terrible wild things, but we all wanted to be a wild thing this week. We really dove into this fun book. We listened to the story many times, even on tape, saw the short video, reenacted the story with puppets and made wild thing masks.
It also fit in perfectly with our writing -- book reports. The children did an awesome job remembering all the details from the book.
Finally to top it all off we got to play the role of the wild things!
Let the wild rumpus begin!
Jacob, Eric and Brandon "rolled their terrible eyes!"Kamorri and Kaitylynn and Shophis "showed their terrible claws!"David H. "roars his terrible roar!

An Egg Hunt to Remember!

Don't your children look adorable with their bonnets and bunny ears?

Thursday's Egg Hunt was awesome due to our fabulously generous parents! Each child got to hunt for 15 eggs. Wow! It was truly a hunt! And to make it even crazier, Mama Mia wrote numbers on each egg and the children could only pick up the ones with their special number.
To quote Brandon, "It was the best egg hunt ever!"
Madison is pretty in pink.

Grace, a fifth grader, gets ready to help Brandon and Devin.

Kyla is stylin' in her bonnet.

D'Jarius and Kaitlynn team up to find their eggs.
Eric is "Mr. Lookin' Good!"

David L., Jaden, Tyler and David H. stop for a photo op!
Clay takes his egg hunting seriously.
Sophia and Gabrylla make egg hunting look fashionable.

Jacob and Nicky get ready to "spring" into action.
Varshi and Kamorri show off their beauty and treasure!

An Egg Hunt!

Remember to send in 12 to 24 plastic eggs and one bag of candy (no hard candy, please!) We need to have them by Wednesday so we can write their names on each one.
Thursday morning we will wear our adorable bonnets and bunny ears and go hunting for those eggs! We will begin around 9:00. You are invited to hop on in and join us for this delightful occasion.

What Happened to the Castle?

Who put all of our gold and yellow things in the middle of the classroom?
We can't believe someone wrecked the room! They even threw all of the yellow skittles on the floor. Fortunately we can clean it up! Who could these rascals be?

Why leprechauns, of course! They planned some fun St. Patrick's Day tricks, but we managed to trick them in the end. The luck of the Irish!

A Walk in the Woods!

Our trip began in the pavilion with our rangers letting us know what to look for on our hike.

Here we are with the cool clipboards in hand ready to see what wild things will appear before our eyes.

Justin is checking off an item on his list.

Brandon and his mom, Miss Lisa, are happy hikers!

Kyla is working on being a junior ranger. Way to go, girl!

Deep in the woods with Madison, Brandon, Varshi and Gabrylla.
Are we scared?

It's best to stick together! Especially if you're having fun, like these guys are!

Like super scientists, here we are comparing notes on what we found.

The rangers tell us about plants we saw and their special characteristics.
Jacob is intent on being a science kid extraordinaire!

Tyler is taking it all in. What a deep thinker!

Shiver Me Timbers!

This week we studied the letter x and celebrated with a pirate theme. We studied maps and talked about buried treasure. (x marks the spot!).
Then we finished the fun week off by dressing like pirates, drawing a treasure map and writing how to find the treasure. (This fit in perfectly with our last piece of telling people "how to" in writer's workshop).
The final bit of fun was using our map and looking for treasure in the class. ARRRRR, maties!

Madison is still looking, but here are Nicky and D'Jarius with their loot!
