Sneezin's Greetings!
Wow! The flu hit our class hard this year. Lots of sneezing, runny noses, coughing and absences. We hope we are all getting back to normal. Because of this nasty bug we have gone through quite a bit of germ soap and tissues. If you would like to help replenish our supply, we'd love it if you could send in either or both items at your earliest convenience! We'll keep our fingers crossed that the flu is gone for good!
UNF Field Trip
Our field trip to UNF will be this Wednesday, March 11. Remember to have your child wear comfortable walking clothes. You may want to apply insect repellant before they come to school. Also, lunches should be sent in a disposable bag with either a juice or water. No sodas, please. It should be a beautiful day to explore nature in our city!
New Telephone Extension!
The Queen has a new phone extension. You still dial the school number, but then 2108 for the extension.
Make New Friends, But Keep the Old -- One is Silver and the Other's Gold
We say good-by to two of our classmates - Samaree and Sa'Nya and welcome Gabrylla and Sophia
Email the Queen!
The Queen always loves mail. You can reach me at: hicksc3@duvalschools.org
The Queen has been teaching for 28 years. 23 of those years have been in kindergarten at our school. Wow! She has been married to the King for almost 23 years. Another wow! There are also 1 cat and 1 bird that keep her company when the king is busy during tax season. At home, her enjoyments are reading, bike riding, water skiing, Soduku puzzles and traveling. She is very passionate about teaching and her favorite part of the day is being with the children. That's why she looks so young!
Tuesday, December 16 We will have our Pajama Day with Mrs. Kornblum. She will be reading the Polar Express to the entire kindergarten! We will top that fun occasion off with some cheerful holiday singing. Your child may wear their pj's to school or bring some to school to change into after lunch. You may join us for this for this (as long as you are in appropriate attire -- your pjs!)
Wednesday, December 17 Our Holiday class party will kick off at 12 noon with a pizza lunch. Please remember to send in your $2.50 for lunch asap! After that scrumptious feast we will swing with all our might to break the 2 awesome pinatas we have been making in class. We would love for you to help fill it with either candy or toys. (Please send only individually wrapped candy that will not break open when the children are using those muscles to break it.)

Meet Mrs. P
Mrs. P is the newest addition to our kindergarten staff and an awesome teacher as well! She is in our class on Tuesdays and Fridays to help teach during Writer's Workshop. Ask your child about some of the fabulous writing lessons they are learning from Mrs. P. On a personal note, Mrs. P is married and has two energetic, enthusiastic and fun little boys. That's why she's so patient and good-natured. Welcome to Queensland Mrs. P!!!!
Hot Off the Press!
Our first field trip will be to the Zoo on Tuesday, October 28. Be on the look out for further information as well as permission slips. Remember if you or a loved one (aunt, grandparent, etc.) would like to chaperone, a state volunteer application form will need to be completed and one for the school several weeks prior to the trip. It should be a royal adventure!
You Know How to Impress A Teacher!
Teachers love support and you did an awesome job of that by coming to Open House last Thursday night! We had 14 out of our 19 student's parents in attendance. You let me know your child's education is a top priority for you. Thanks to the loved ones of these children for coming:
Tyler Brandon Samoree Varshi Nicky Justin Kamorri Kamryn Jaden Madison Kyla Eric Isabel Sa'Nya
If you didn't have an opportunity to make it, I hope you will schedule a meeting with me asap.
Meet Hunny Bunny!
Hunny Bunny (Rosemary Leveritt) is our hop-to-it volunteer. She is a delightful character who helps out in our room twice a week. She is married to Mr. Hunny Bunny and has two sweet bunnies, L.A. Bunny (LeeAnna) and B.B. Bunny (Brandi). She is a busy bunny as you will see her working in Kindergarten Extended Day also.
Meet Mama Mia!
Mama Mia is our awesome assistant who works in our classroom on Tuesdays, Fridays and every other Wednesday. Yes, she has been dancing and singing her way into our hearts. She will be a familiar name and face to your children -- Now she'll be familiar to you too! Mama Mia is a wonderful wife and fantastic mother to four adorable (almost all grown-up) children. I hope she'll be a hit with you too!

The Royal Subjects will be dining on a royal feast of pizza, attending the royal awards and crowning of the class and participating in the royal games. Please feel free to attend all or part of this illustrious day to honor the Royal Subjects on their journey out of Queensland. It's sure to be a memorable occasion.
The King Visits the Castle
Last Friday the king surprised us with a visit. He was very impressed with all the bright and enthusiastic royal subjects
Looking Skyward!
Thank you to the Northeast Astronomical Society for donating a telescope to our kindergarten classroom. While we may not have gotten to watch the stars, here we are with Hunny Bunny, our volunteer, looking at trees, leaves, birds and other far off bits of nature.
Volunteers Are Number 1!!
If you couldn't make it to the Volunteer Breakfast last Friday morning, here is a picture of our official thank you poster we made. And I want to sincerely say thank you to the many parents who are always helping out in our room -- from sending in supplies to going on field trips. Your kind acts are the icing on the cake. You make it sweet!
Our Favorite Transportation Books
Dan the Flying Man School Bus Airport Flying Scuffy the Tugboat Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel Sheep in a Jeep Freight Train
We had an awesome day at the zoo in January. The weather was perfect for a winter's day. The children saw an incredible assortment of animals, had a lovely picnic lunch and got to touch some cool animals in the educational center, like a chinchilla (very, very soft!) and a snake (a favorite with them!)
