We're Roaring to go to the Zoo!

We've been studying and role playing the animals we'll see at the zoo. Learning can be fun!
Remember our field trip to the zoo will be Tuesday, October 28. We have been counting down the days.
Please have your child wear comfortable clothing and shoes that Tuesday. We will also be wearing our royal t-shirts we decorated this past Friday.
For lunches, send in a bagged lunch (either paper or plastic) with a juice drink or water. No sodas!
Students do not need to bring in any money, as we will not be going on any rides or into the gift shops.

Read to Self

Here are a few pictures of some of our awesome readers:

We have begun one of the most important pieces of our Reader's Workshop -- reading to ourselves.

The best way to become better readers who love to read is by practicing everyday!

We've started off slowly by reading to ourselves for 3 mintues. Then we will work on adding a minute every day. This is called building stamina -- just like an athlete, but with our brains!

I will be sending home a picture of your child and a note explaining more in Tuesday's folder. You should be proud of your child for working so hard.

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!

We've been enjoying literature and stories with many readings and activities. Here we are reading Chicka Chicka Boom Boom with musical instruments. The maracas made our chicka sounds and the drums and tambourines were for our boom boom pieces. Reading is a joyous noise in kindergarten!
Yes, you can even try this at home!

Mrs. Hartnett Is "Roaring" To See You at the Book Fair!

The Book Fair will be open for business starting Thursday, September 11

That night will also be our "Read and Feed" from 5:00 to 8:00. If you're not coming to eat, you're welcome to come and shop.

The Queen will be working from 6:00 - 6:30 that night. After that, I'll be busy buying books myself! I'd love to see the royal bookworms there checking out the book selection too. Stop by and say hello.

If you can't make it with your child Thursday night, we will having buying times each day until next Wednesday. Make sure you put your child's money in an envelope or plastic baggie with their name on it. We'll check the planners daily for money you send in for this occasion.

And Mrs. Hartnett says, "DON'T FORGET TO INCLUDE SALES TAX!"

J.J. Comes to Beauclerc!

J.J., our favorite jaguar, helped us kick off our Reading Goals for the year last Wednesday, September 3!

We love to read in class and hope you will help your child develop this love at home too. We're looking forward to seeing what 25 books you have been reading to your child each night! What a memorable experience for a child -- being able snuggling with a loved one at night reading a story.

Run, run as fast as you can!

Last week we read the Gingerbread Boy story. On Monday we decorated some gingerbread cookies. And wouldn't you know? When we went to get them and eat them, they had run away! So, off we went to search Beauclerc for them. We looked in the halls, we asked many teachers and finally we went to the office and found them in Mrs. Kornblum's office! We were as sly as the 'ol fox. We think they wanted to talk to hear about what a great story they came from.

Sad to say they went the way of all gingerbread boys -- we ate them.

You, too, might want to read this story with your child at home. It's delicious!
